Our Cantor

Mordecai Martin Edry is a one man diaspora: born in Morocco, he came to the United States via France and Israel. Though his native tongue is Arabic and his parents spoke French and Spanish at home, Mordecai Edry conducts his day to day life in good old American English.

As Cantor, Mordecai Edry has been delighting congregations in the New York metropolitan area for the past forty years. During that period, he has also performed in concerts, both as solo artist and with major choral groups.

He has studied voice with world renowned artists Gabor Correfy of The Metropolitan Opera and Luigi Marchio of La Scala Milan, and has mastered Jewish art songs with such greats as Sidor Belarsky, Joe Elias, Issachar Meron, and David Koussevitzky.

His concert audiences enjoy a superb range of Jewish musical styles, including: Israeli, Chasidic, Yemenite and Ladino folk songs.

For the past twenty five years, Mordecai Edry, has been serving Congregation B’nai Jeshurun proudly as Cantor
